Must be something in a top cabinet in kitchen to provide variety. Do the "lemon uncrossing" and the money ones together, they really work for the short term.

Haven't really tried yet... I think I make too much on UI...however if I take the info from here and here After adjustments (not sure if I did it right) I make way less than the 130% of the poverty amount. That supposedly qualifies me for food stamps. Problem is; my bus pass expired and literally have no cash to take the bus to get there.

Looks like you can apply online. Then when you have an appointment for an interview explain your situation to find out your options. Possibly your local church may provide transportation - never hurts to ask. The CO ui site has links to food banks, etc. Keep your head up and smile!

Add some diced green onions and some lentels or black beans. Toss in a bit of dark sesame oil or Tahini and ya have one heck of a meal. (i.m.h.o.)

Those ramen noodles aren't that good for you but probably more satisfying. Nothing wrong with rice, I don't know if oats are really better for you? 2/3rds of the world may disagree. More/different stuff in them. To the OP, hope things look up soon. Don't be too proud to accept some help or a meal from friends/relatives or a charity. I've been close to that myself.

Beans, lentels, dried peas = protein Cheap energy source. Spend the money and buy yourself some cheap vitamins. The difference between expensive vitamins and cheap ones (for the most part) is how much it will tear up your stomach. Rice and breads will make you hungry and make you fat. You can't think straight if you're not feeding your body food and rice is not food. Bchlover009 is right: Oats are much better for you and slowed cooked oats are much better than anything instant. Honey is a good anti-oxidant. You need protein for energy. Get outside and get some excersize every day - even if its just a little 5-10 minute walk break. Learn how to relax...draw, read, write. Listen to National Public Radio (NPR) while job searching to keep you company. Listen to Car Talk on NPR on the weekends to keep you sane. :0D You are one of my favorites here - I want you to be happy and feeling good!

Check out a website ed the Hillbilly Housewife for really cheap food recipes. The lady who publishes it has something she s "emergency food menus" and provides the grocery list for everything you need. Balanced meals with some variety, kind of like our grandparents lived on back in the day. You can feed a family of four on $20 a week if you follow her directions. Some of the recipes are quite tasty, I've tried a lot of them, but you gotta do a little cooking for yourself, she's not big on instant or prepared foods.

And not too sure how near or far you are,,, but if theres a more rural area within an hours drive, often times there are stores which specialize in bulk dried goods. Ya' know, the 50lb. bags of rice and beans etc. Pretty good discount on bulk goods usually as it saves them the time & expense of repackaging. Or maybe thats just a Missouri thing? I'd think not, but worth checking into.

Fall is harvest time Look around public parks and fairgrounds for abandonned garden plots, fruit trees planted for their ornamental value, etc. A couple years ago, I happened to be in a county fairground for a computer show, and noticed the garden club's old display - loaded with peppers, eggplant, assorted herbs, etc, etc.
