Do you give your boss your cell phone number? I don't believe in giving a cell phone # to the supervisor or administrative head. Even if they ask. I don't want to be connected to the job each and every minute after work. It's diff if you're an executive yourself, or a sales person, or a "necessary" employee.

    depends on your responsibilities........ if you're a mail clerk, why would they need you after hours...if you're the project manager on large projects, salaried, and professional, then yes you give them your cell phone number or better yet, they should supply you with a company cell phone and bear the expense.....one of my first discussions during the processing phase is to get a company cell phone and company credit card........I don't do company work on my dime.

    Depends on a whole lot of things... yes your responsibility at the job would be one deciding factor. But I also know many people who are doing away with land lines and using only cell phones. And the boss (or HR or someone in the company) does have the right to have your phone number. If I were still working my old 8-5 job I would give it to my boss. Why because I'm single and have worried many times about if anything were to happen to me no one would know. But then again my old boss was great and I knew he would never have abused it. So I would say depends on your job responsibilities, your boss, your particular situation and many other things. Is not a clear cut answer to be given.

    So Inamerica, What Did You Ever End Up Saying that got you hired without a background check or by covering up that you had resigned three times in order to avoid being terminated three times. I'm curious to know what you ended up saying to your employer to get past all that. Paul

    Depends on lots of factors I did have an admin assist job and a new boss who ed my cell phone because he did not how to order something essential to safe operations. I happened to be standing in a VA medical center with my father and was about to shut my phone off when it rang. Was it bad on my boss's part? Sure but I am easy going. My current job has my cell phone but since it has a different area code, no one would use it anyway. I also have had several jobs where I had to always carry two cell phones- the personal one and the business one issued by the company. But I think whether you give out the number to anyone including a boss depends on many factors. If you do not have a land line phone, then your employer may insist on a phone connection for emergency purposes. Although sometimes that would not help either. There were no cell phone connections during 9/11 because towers were down.
