I emailed HR some questions last week 5 days ago. To this day, no reply. Although the ad says no phone s, is it a good idea to anyway? That way I could check if the email was received or not.

Wow. She Was Certainly A Jerk. I Would Have simply asked you to respond by email. That way your response can be attached to your application and can be passed around. Otherwise she would have had to write out your response, type it up and then include it in your file. It is no wonder they asked for an email response. But her reaction was probably uned for. Paul

the email I hope this letter finds you well. I am contacting you today in response to the fascinating ad I discovered on and your web site recently. Through my initial research, I have learned the inspirational rise to fame that your company's CEO, Mr. Smith underwent. I was further inspired by Mr. Ricardo's rags to riches story from his days on a rural Montana farm to his retreat in Malta and the legacy he left behind. Before I send you my resume and further contact information, I was hoping you could answer some questions to see if our values and expectations match. I would have ed you for this information but wish to respect the ad's preference for no phone s please. Let's this a pre-interview. 1) What do you consider to be the (the firm's) strengths and weaknesses? 2) In your opinion, what is the most important contribution that this company expects from its employees and in particular, the customer service representative? 3) Are there any major problems the firm is facing right now which would stimulate a major hiring campaign? How long do your employees usually stay on board? 4) Can you explain your philosophy on the decision to request employees be available for 24hrs/7day shifts and be open to rotate every 2 weeks? Do you believe that some people are naturally more efficient and productive at certain times of the day, i.e. early birds in the morning, afternoon people for swing shifts, night owls, for graveyard , or do you think everyone has the ability to adapt to the scheduled that's asked of them? What do you think are the pros and cons of 24/7 scheduling? 5) What are my prospects for advancement? If I do a good job, what is a logical next step? ... P.S. no I did not send the thank you email to the other place. I applied to another place instead. I'll probably do the thank you by Thursday which would be 1 week after the phone interview

Hello. I Say the Following Courteously So Don't misunderstand my tone. Backwards, first, the 'thanks' email message ought to have gone out the same or next day. Sending it several days later loses its impact and flavor. Sending it days later shows no real rigor or initiative. By the time you send it, you may as well also inquire as to when you will be hearing from that person regarding the next step in the interview process, remembering to bring up a few key points that reflect how your background, qualifications and/or accomplishments dovetail with the position. Lastly, I hate to be the one to say this but you are very, very naive in thinking an HR department is going to respond to your questions. Did I say 'naive'? They have more things to do than answer your questions- things just don't work that way, dreamin. Especially since for every advertised position, they have literally hundreds of resumes coming in so they do not and will not 'feel the need' to reply to your questions. This is that company that said everyone gets rotated through all three shifts? Wow, as I mentioned and was also remarked on by others when you posted this several days ago, any company that rotates all their staff through all three shifts does not even know what they are doing. The correct way to run a three shift operation is to find people who will reliably work those three shifts and then assign them to it permanently. Only certain people prefer swing shift just as only certain people prefer the graveyard shift. Sometimes this is because they have a lifestyle that requires them to work a particular shift and sometimes it is because of having another job, going to school or simply because some people are night owls. Reasonable management knows this and recruits and staffs accordingly. So if you don't mind being rotated through all three shifts then perhaps you won't have a problem with this. But again, you are very naive to believe an HR department is going to take the time to answer your questions; especially before they have even met you. Some of those questions are better asked during an interview. Paul

to tell you the truth, I sent the questions to test them. I'm not that interested in the 24/7 shifts and thought I'd get HR's opinion on why they decided that, then see if I still wanted to apply. If they disregarded the email, which it looks like they did, in my mind that doesn't bode well for our future. I probably won't apply. Or maybe I'll send the questions off to the main HR email and tell them the contact I had didn't reply, just to piss them off.

Now You R Also Being Juvenile + Naive You won't "piss" anyone off. Your email will just get deleted. You seem to think you have the capacity to make an impact but you are mistaken. With your thinking, you may continue to run into roadblocks. I've been much more rude to people when I say to you that you need to grow up. At the least, perhaps you got a benefit from learning how to find people. Hopefully that will come in handy another time soon. Take care, Paul

It Is An Email Address, Not A Website URL ...and please don't send me anything. I've spent as much time with you as I want. With your attitude, it doesn't matter how much knowledge I jump-start you with. Your juvenile approach to problem solving is going to get in your way for a while until you grow up. I've already helped you learn how to find people and I spent a lot of time with you over an issue you did not follow up on. That you waited/are waiting so long to get that 'thanks' note into the system does not speak well for you. So take what I've given you and put it to good use. You showed some real rigor in chasing down the details the other day so you are not hopeless. But your naive thinking is going to landmine your efforts. No matter how tenacious you are. And, as was said, that you are sweating to hear back on a job for which you have no interest just does not compute. Believe me when I say I am not being rude, just speaking straight with you. You haven't seen rude from me, yet; as others can confirm for you. I like that you know how to track stuff down and are willing to dig. But your expectations of those around you are not realistic. As I said, you need to grow up. The sooner, the better. Take care of yourself, dreamin... Paul

dude. I really think you're two faced When someone agrees with you, you love them and offer them help. As soon as the person challenges you, you abandon them. It's as if you can't take any heat. Why is that? Also, why would someone here want to send you their resume especially if all they know you from is a CL profile and nothing more? It probably benefits you to add it to your collection, get new ideas...

Paul is what Paul is... And one thing he is NOT is two-faced. He helped you until he felt you didn't need it anymore. And you may remember: he doesn't make promises here on . Oh, and that was also a rather tacky move, posting his personal email address here on the forum, especially after he helped you so much. Good luck with your interviews and follow-ups. My advice: Don't "pester" HR just because you feel like it anymore. If you feel that they are "ignoring" you because they won't send you back the 3-5 page essay answers that you want, then you are being unrealistic with your expectations. And doing something "just to piss [a possible future employer] off" is never a good idea, just for future reference. Best wishes! :-)

LOL, you don't get it yet. You are trying to interview the job when the job is seeking people to interview. They are seeking people that want to work for them not people that want to see if they want to work for them and as tough as the job market is, they probably have been flooded with applications so why would they waiste their time with your questions? What is even funnier is you seem to be stressing over not being contacted back by a job you claim you don't want. If you want to learn about the job, you have to go through the motions. It is your job to convince them first they want to hire you, then theirs to convince you to work for them. Not the other way around. So quit thinking they will waste their time reversing it so you don't have to waste yours.

you could do that maybe the hiring manager had to take a couple days off. Maybe you'll piss them off. Maybe they were considering you, but this little blurb to "main HR" will change their opinion. You gain nothing from this and stand to lose alot by taking such a silly action. Consider that even if you don't get this job, perhaps there's another opening in that company. But oh well, now you've blacklisted yourself.
