Why is it that 3 years ago... It was so easy for me to get an interview... but now with MORE experience and supervising experience it's almost impossible to even get a back. I know times are tough, but are they really looking THAT hard into my previous experience?

It's not your experience that's the problem t's that there are WAY more applicants for every job now than 3 years ago

Well it's just idiotic to me that banks and apartment complexes were so open to at least giving me an interview at barely 18.. and now that I am more mature and on my way towards a degree and have more experience in what they're looking for, they don't even give me a chance. I do pretty well in interviews, I just have to actually make it to that point.

hahaha that is so funny!!!! You don't have to be rude. I am just asking a simple question. Don't act like because someone has a degree they're entitled to a job before people that don't yet. I am talking about jobs that DON'T REQUIRE OR REQUEST a degree... there are so may jobs I CAN'T apply for because I don't have my degree yet.. people with degrees need to stop applying for jobs under them. And don't respond with "Well they apply to jobs under them because there is nothing else." Wrong. In my city at least, I have seen plenty of jobs that require a standard bachelors degree... it's not my fault I can't fast forward time to get to my degree, at least I am trying.

Im not.. trying to stop people from applying. It's just shitty when people that don't NEED a job are getting jobs. Like a stated in a different post.. I have a lot of young adults in my city (PLENTY THAT I KNOW OF) working the decent jobs that don't require a degree.. and then the people like me are stuck applying to jobs you KNOW you aren't going to get because they want a degree holder.

Obama's been in office how long now??? And I'm not surprised.. everything is just getting worse. But it's okay, we can all just file for unemployment and have government controlled health care. While we're at it, let's have them bar code us all and micro-chip us like the dogs we are.

I just love how they named themselves teabaggers considering the overwhelming amount of homo-phobes involved, it is certainly a bold move.

If there were so many jobs in Memphis then you would not have a problem finding one, whether or not you have your degree. There are many job postings here too, but I have talked to people that know the ins and outs of the jobs. They say they are sometimes posting, but only hiring if absolutely necessary. If there are plenty of jobs for people with degrees there, they would take those over other jobs, but the reality is is that there are not that many or they are looking for a specific niche to fill and not every degree will fill a particular niche.

I wonder ...if HR, HA's are just as clueless? I haven't had any probs explaining the employment gap to 'crooters but, they know the score. The OP's post is rather chilling to me --- it suggests that there might be Americans (HR, HAs) who really don't realize what its like out here.

I'm sure there are plenty who don't 'get it' as long as they have a job and most of the people they know have jobs, there's no reason for them to be concerned (they think) A vast number of americans don't follow the news either

um...that's not good...lol... Everyone I know, knows...whether they're working or not. This wasn't the case, say, 6 months ago. I spoze if you're working someplace that hasn't experienced any downsizing and your friends/fam/neighbors haven't had any problems, how would you know? CNN? I hope I get an interview...with someone who's life has somehow hit the skids! LOL! I was hoping that companies would be phishing around for January interviewees but, looking at the job market, I don't see anything promising.

Only my unemployed friends get it Have three not-real-friends in state government (for over 20 straight years) who were scrambling when they learned they'd have to go without one two-week paycheck because of budgets not passing. Even afterwards, they went back to spending like there is no tomorrow, and are now unsure how they'll pay for Christmas. An academic said I was "taking a sabbatical" during a residency status hearing at the local university. During my one and only phone interview, an HR person at a law firm laughed when I explained how I've been spending my time as an unemployed person. We ended the when I told her that she should also look into additional classes to at least learn how to pronounce the word "ask." I'm seeking admin work, and don't think many HR people know about achievement-oriented resumes since I seem to have done much better when I used a resume listing only duties.

Again with being rude I am not trying to make an argument out of this. I understand there is a lot of different people out there looking for work. All I was asking was why is it that there are job postings everywhere online and it's nearly impossible to even hear a 'NO' back. (I am talking about legit career pages on specific company websites.. not necessarily CL) And I didn't say "I'm ENTITLED because I have a KID and DON'T HAVE MY DEGREE" .. The group of people I am focusing on are in MY city (Collierville, TN) there are a lot of 24 year old men and women who are living with there parents and have degrees and getting jobs that are lower than what they could do. Making it harder for the people like me (21 year old with a child and NOT being supported by mommy or daddy)...

Unfortunately (or fortunately) depending on how you see it - NEED is not one of the criteria employers use to evaluate your application for their open positions (well most of the time it's not taken into consideration when hiring) Who is to say that you need a job more than someone over 50 who is about to lose everything they've worked for? and yes there are a LOT of people out there who are applying for and TAKING positions that are MUCH lower than they are qualified for - we all have a right to eat

I have heard it before.. I know they don't care about your home life. And again.. I am talking about the young adults.. not people with years and years of experience. I have a question for you.. Who's to say that this 50 year old woman with 20 years experience would do a better job than a 21 year old woman? There are pros and cons to both. Everyone is different.. and although they look at X amount of years of experience, someone could have fucked around for 20 years and did a mediocre job.. while someone else did an EXCELLENT job doing the same thing... but only for two years. And the shitty ending to all of it.. the 50 something year old gets the job because of experience.. and they never know what the younger one could have accomplished working for them.. because they don't get a chance to show it.

I have found just the opposite that the younger ones get the jobs most of the time. Unless it is a job that requires a specific skill.
