Misdemeanors shouldn't be a major issue
Misdemeanors shouldn't be a major issue for most employers, unless they were crimes of "moral turpitude"; i.e. sex crimes, theft, burglary... But some industries - financial, hospitals, teaching, take a much stricter approach. When I was looking for work in NYC, once I got to the offer stage, I was upfront about my record. It cost me several nice opportunities, but I would have lost them anyway as soon as the BGC came back. Yet, I managed to get not only a job, but a GREAT fucking Wall Street job, with my record, AND no prior Wall St. experience. You have to be able to put the most positive possible spin on your past, and once you are accepted, you have to prove yourself EVERY day. Twice since those times, my client banl has done BGC's, with HR then recommending termination, but CIO, CTO, & some managing directors standing up for me, because I've demonstrated such eexemplary performance in my job.
