well with this economy......
I can understand why these employers an hour away are asking. If the job is not a real high paying job then I would wonder why the commute as well. With the price of gas and a lot can happen in a 2 hour commute per day (car breaks down, run out of gas, oversleep and you end up late, any appts you would have would be an hour away one way so you would have to take off more time than someone who is closer, etc, etc.) I don't know how to answer that. I just know in my last management job we needed to hire an admin assistant and I would not hire anyone who had more than a 20 mile commute one way because the price of gas had gone up so much that they would not make enough to afford the commute starting at $12 an hour. I was the manager and I was getting killed on gas commuting 15 miles one way, 30 miles round trip. Plus, we had had too many people in that position prior that lived far away and they were always either late, car breaking down or running on appts for the rest of the day before noon because they didn't want to come all the way back to office again. That is also a lot of wear/tear on your vehicle so upkeep is more expensive as well. Any options for you to relocate closer to where the jobs are?
