Delphi 5 & 7 Programmer TSQL Crystal Reports etc Basis: job ad date first seen Basis2: Austin, TX. Have seen this posting before even if I read "new" on the ad... Ummmmm I believe my memory is still sharp. So I done a search and found the ad for most parts date 2 months back. This is as far as the internet can give me in archive ads. Anyone else seen this ad april or may. I tend to believe february or so from recuiters for HSC?

I don't remember seeing it Further back than that. Its something unusual, there is basiy near zero interest in Delphi anymore since it is essentially a dead language.

still based on Pascal? Delphi == Pascal language today... ? Have I missed something? Looking at Borland web site and product search .NET library added? The ad hints strongly Delphi/C#/.NET; IMHO not in the same IDE or many in recuiting say is tool set. Looks like it is different products, versions? maybe, and using IDE with C#.NET? To me on the coding level not *really* the same.

Delphi=Object Pascal I've never heard of anyone using the Delphi IDE to develop C# or .NET code. Just about everyone I know who programs in .NET uses Visual Studio and the few that don't are either using MonoDevelop or Eclipse.

dead languages I spent the summer of 2004 programming in ForTRAN77 for a research project with a professor that didn't want to switch, so you never know, some people just like to stick w/ old languages, even if they are mostly dead.

Dead languages... Well, there are still people who take Latin in school... So just because something is dead doesn't mean absolutely nobody uses it... Just not very many. Fortran 77... eeeeew. Never actually had to write programs in it myself, but when I was in college the poor Freshman Engineering students did... and they were always trying to get help debugging their spaghetti code.

using 77 in 04 is not very much fun. Especially trying to learn the language with a boss who didn't speak english well (he was polish) and had most of his books in russian. My job was a ten week project, in theoretical nuclear physics, which I knew nothing about, using a language I didn't know. I was given a program with more than 80 pages of code with no comments. I think saying it was pretty horrible is an apt description. And I never said I was old. In fact, I said 77 was older than me, which makes me pretty young.

Yeah... That does sound like a sucky situation... Hope you got paid well for it. Unfortunately it is experience that will probably not do you much good. In fact, putting F77 on a resume these days might be the kiss of death.
