How long should I wait? Last monday, I responded to a job posting, on Thursday night they sent me a reply. Due to the holiday, I didn't get the email until Sunday evening. In their response, they asked me when would be a good time for a phone interview. My response was that I was available any time, and that I was looking forward to speaking with him (not that short, but that was the basic idea). It's now Thursday and I have no heard from him. How long should I wait before I send him another email?

Send another reply today ... Say you have not heard back and are following up in case they did not receive your reply. Send a copy of the first email as well.

Okay, that's kinda what I was thinking... I figure 4 days was adequate...but I don't want to seem pushy or desperate.

I wouldn't Once I was interviewing for a company that required five rounds of phone interviews before they'd "consider" me for an in-person interview. The problem was that they'd only schedule these interviews more than two weeks apart. After the second such interview I asked whether the process could be sped up since I am speaking to different person each time and the interview coordinator (just an admin according to her job title) got angry and told me that I am no longer considered for the position. Yes, just because I didn't want to spend three months on phone interview they got offended. At the end it didn't matter because I found another job after one phone interview without even a need for in-person interview.

But I haven't had any sort of interview at all and this isn't a big company, it's a small, home-run busniess...a personal/office assistant position. One person running the show, that's all. I don't want to just give up, on the offchance that maybe he DIDN'T get my other email response... Besides, it sounds like you just annoyed the wrong person that day, and it surprises me that someone like an "interview coordinator" would have enough pull in the hiring situation that they would allow them to completely drop someone from the running because they simply asked if it MUST take this long. Sounds like there was something else going on there. Besides...5 phone interviews before being considered for a face-to-face, that just seems impractical.

Be that it may, This person is the "gatekeeper" and it's not as I could go around her so I guess she felt powerful about her position. All she has to do is say that I declined the position or something and her boss wouldn't even bother to verify. Typical.

I hate people like that... As if the world revolves around them and they should have the say-so about other peoples lives. Real pains in the ass.

I met many people like that Once I was interviewing with an investment bank and there was one woman that was at the bottom of the totem pole and she admantly didn't want me hired because I'd be starting above her. During the interview she emphasized that she has a degree in "astro"-physics even though I never asked. Any idea what she did at the firm? Data entry and pulling data. (I guess astrophysicists aren't in high demand.) It sucks but I didn't get many jobs because of people like that. I have been a independent consultant for the past decade and you have no ideas how little rights I have in FTE's eyes. One time a manager that I have never met accused me of not doing something he never asked me to do in the first place and I couldn't do a thing about it.

There is no number to And since it's a small busniess, with no website (in fact, he has a job posted for the job as well), the only number I have to go on is his personal home phone number that I found by using a people search feature using his name (from his email). Would my hotmail email fall into a spam folder maybe? I would think that since it didn't seem to fall there in the first place (or at least he found it there if it did), that he would see a response there too. I was worried at first that the posting was spam, but after getting a non-block format response from him a few days after my email (rather than about 15 seconds later), and then being able to look him up and finding him in the town the job is listed at.
