need advice here for a friend I have a friend who was in this type of work: Sales within the consumer packaged goods industry. This friend worked at the Vice President Senior level in sales. Recently, s/he led a merchandising services organization focused on providing retailers and manufacturers at the store level in getting their products out onto the floor. S/he directed approx 3,000 people nationally to do this type of work. What suggestions would you have for this person who did this type of work? Are there any professional organizations to network? What other industries could this type of work "transfer" to? (Transferrable skills)

Your friend herself should already know... She would be the most experienced person in knowing what lateral or equivalent Industries her skills would be most applicable to or compatible with. She should have also made numerous networking contacts through her time at that former Company.

Ok, I just wanted to be able to offer something in return for my friend being there in a supportive role while I look for work. I feel as though I'm always 'taking' and not giving enough to others. I've been fortunate to have been in the good company of people who were in high level roles. And their kindness has been extended to me while I've been searching for work in positions that aren't quite at the VP level. So, is there anything you could suggest that I present to my dear friend(s) as a way to stay connected and keep my network alive? I don't want to always be the needy one. I do share what I've been doing. Anything else?

I see... and you're a true friend... Maybe Steamheat, MizBozMaam, HR_Supah_Freak, or hdhnterpaul could point to specific sources for your friend = I got bubkis, other than the other direct packaging manufacturers or merchandising Companies that could be found through a search engine online...

Right on Artie!!! I'm glad to hear the great news!!! You will once again value the time off from work when you manage to have it!!! When I was ed back to work by my former Employers (MGM Mirage), I was so happy and so thankful to be a part of "The Rat Race" again => as I truly missed being a part of it. It's good to feel needed and to be a part of something that you can contribute to, in place of being idle with no sense of long term direction or commitment. When I was unemployed (for almost 8 months), I was going ape shit/stir crazy!!! Because of that time off, I dread the thought of retiring because I am somewhat of a busy body... Congrats again Artie!!!
