InspiredNetworks - Have u Worked with them? Has any designer here worked with Inspired Networks with Scott Williamson based in Vancouver, BC? Are they a trustworthy company that will pay? I'd sent them a contract and an initial draft and since i haven't heard from them I am worried.

PSD files for an ecommerce website. I've drafted up a homepage for them. Our verbal agreement was to design templates for various pages on the site. I just found out from a friend that she used to freelance for them and they ended up not paying her anything ...

There's a lot of that going on on 's List. People getting hired to do work for free, and the scammers just laugh instead of paying.

I Don't Laugh @ Scammers. I Laugh @ Those Who start work without a signature on an Agreement. You can get more miles out of a judge in Small Claims when you show a Contract/Agreement. Anyone who is taking verbal work orders w/o anything in writing is only asking for it. I think I'm in one of the very, very few industries where no paperwork is returned but I still get paid. In my case, I have lots of 'evidence' by virtue of my notes and the candidate being interviewed and subsequently being hired. This does not happen in a vacuum and the courts know it. In fact, employers can hire behind my back and once I find out I will get paid because I have a thick file of notes and most if not all judges are headhunter friendly. But for most everyone else.....good luck not having signed agreements in place. That is SO high school.

Sorry to hear this... This scam practice has been an ongoing issue throughout the internet (not necessarily exclusive to CL - but it does happen a lot here). If you are unable to get paid for this particular project, chalk it up to a learning experience and obviously don't make the same mistake again ~> be proactive/defensive and always get something in writing to protect yourself from potential fraud...
