Following up after an interview Is an email thank you note pretty much the standard now, or do you think it's worth it to actually send something via snail mail. I'm assuming the former is better, as people expect a quicker response these days now that everyone is accessible 24/7, but I thought I'd see what others have to say. Also, when do you think the best time to follow up is? Same day? 24 hours? Thanks!

I think it would depend somewhat on how they left it. Did they say they wanted to make a decision as soon as possible? I know email doesn't seem like the best way to go, on the other hand, if they are looking to make a quick decision you don't want your letter going through the mail, and then through their mailroom, which could ultimately take up to a week. I would write a very clear and concise email if I were you. Also, make sure you use proper wording throughout--not the normal email "shorthand".

They said that it would be about 2-3 weeks before they made a decision. Taking that into consideration, would you say that a neatly handwritten card might be the most appropriate?

I save handwritten for close family and friends This is your one last shot to get the job. You want a professional letter in which you reiterate the reasons they should hire you, and more importantly, why you want to work for them. You can't do that in a handwritten note.

I recently hand delivered my thank you letter to the companies HR clerk the following AM. My interview was the prior morning and I wanted to put in on a professional letter, not some crappy email.I did this so fast because I knew they were making a decision that afternoon. To each their own....turned out it all was for not as they hired a friend....but I got my face time and hope to have made a good impression.

I'm with you Wohehiv I always sent a hand written thank you card to the companies I interview with by mail. I have never send a thank you email, at least not yet. But like you stated, to each their own. Sorry to hear you didn't get the position, but I'm sure there is something out there for you. Stay positive.
