Go to a community college and talk to one of the advisors available in the student services/admissions office. It is free and they can also give you a ballpark idea of any financial aid you might be eligible for. There are changes to Pell Grant so more people can take advantage of it. You would need to be on some type of career track or degree path to be eligible for financial aid. One thing my local community college offers is an 18 month radiology program. It is small and highly competitive and the graduates get out with jobs in the $50,000 range. It is Florida so health care is a booming business. Stay away from any proprietary school (Keiser, University of Phoenix, DeVry, etc.) because they'll promise you anything to get you in the door and suck up your money, but their reputations among employers isn't great. Go to a community college or state university. In California community colleges are ridiculously cheap. Good luck!

Also . . . Do some informational interviewing with people who already have the job you are interested in. Ask them the pros and cons of the job so you will get an idea if it's something you are interested in.
